We’ve Got Your Back

With proper nutrition early in life; children can grow, develop and thrive to their full potential.

Together, we ensure every child enrolled in our program has nutritional food to eat over the weekend.

WGYB is a weekend nutrition program serving children and families in need (Pre-K through High School) residing in Orange County, Los Angeles County, and San Bernandino. Students enrolled in the program have been identified as a child in need through the school districts per the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.

In partnership with 82+ schools, Giving Children Hope delivers backpacks packed with love by volunteers each week to designated school sites. Each child in the program receives enough food for three to four family members throughout the weekend and sometimes throughout the week. In addition, families can self-select to participate in a new product distribution program that provides each household upwards of 50 pounds of donated perishable goods, including not limited to; meat, milk, eggs, vegetables, and fruit.

This program has provided food and nutrition education for children and families in need for almost two decades. This sustainable food source ensures that children always receive the nutrition they need.

School Enrollment Period: August-September
*Rolling Applications Permitted on a Case by Case basis

How We Were Able To Help

Community Impact Project Gallary Coming Soon

Our Impact

The We’ve Got Your Back program mobilizes the community to ensure every child has an equal opportunity to access healthy food options. We believe that ending child hunger is possible primarily through effective community partnerships.

School Partners

Our school partners are community heroes in our eyes. An assigned liaison ensures the food is delivered to the child and their family every week and monitors the child’s progress in learning and physical wellbeing.

Of Food

In partnership with local food banks and grocery stores, Giving Children Hope sorts, prepares, and distributes thousands of pounds of perishable and non-perishable goods weekly to families in need.

Children Served Weekly

We have an average of 1,300 families enrolled in our We’ve Got Your Back program each academic year. Regardless of their housing situation, we can support the family through the child to ensure they have the food they need.

“63% of our renters live below the poverty line, making ends meet difficult because they are just fighting to get food to get on the table for dinner and the weekends. Our partnership with Giving Children Hope has relieved that stress.”
